Free writing workshop with Rheea Mukherjee
StartMar 22
EndMar 22
The Politics of Personal ‘Everything is political’Most writers don’t intend to write a story with a political motive. But in the absence of this intention, there exists a whole world of direct and indirect political commentary. No matter how apolitical a story may seem, every narrative we write allows us to understand gender, sexuality, globalization, ethics, privilege, and class in a unique way. What are the merits of examining the personal perspective we employ when we build our stories? Do political labels matter when it comes to writing fiction? This two-hour workshop will include mini-readings from global literature in order to facilitate rich conversations and observations. We’ll also be working with writing prompts and examining its political relevance together. This workshop will be fun, intense, and probing. This is a space where we can discard binary truths and jump into the grey! What to Bring: A notebook, a pen, and a wide-open mind!

Thomas Gabriel ( Grandson of Johnny Cash )
StartMar 28
EndMar 28
T.G. - as those closest to him call him - is the oldest grandchild of Johnny Cash. Predominately raised on the road, he often dreamed of a life as a successful career musician. When he was young, his grandfather would call him onstage, to sing “When the Saints Go Marching In. At 21, he was in the studio trying out his voice. Johnny would say, “Son, you sound a lot like I did when I was younger; work on those vocals.”Johnny also insisted that T.G. have a back-up option, so he went to the police academy, and into police work.Life and adversity has kept him from pursuing his dreams, but he has regained control over his life, and is back in the world that holds so much potential for him.Along with his voice that sounds so much like his grandfather’s, he brings a wealth of stories from his memories of his childhood and of growing up a member of such an iconic family. This is an extremely intimate venue and tickets will be limited. https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamwindsor/2018/11/21/johnny-cashs-grandson-thomas-gabriel-comes-full-circle/?fbclid=IwAR2xpe25UgzDwMuSYvvJP-vtYsvl2FI5WQ5_WQ1dC-CWozbVCJEeoAIgEo0#4d3e2dbb4f13
